Freak Buck in Okie
By Patrick Dunning
Al Shene sent a bolt through this 31-pointer, nicknamed Stickers, on opening day of Oklahoma’s 2023 rifle season in Pottawatomie County. The 61-year-old had a four-year history with this irregular bruiser on his 82-acre slice of Sooner State heaven, and doubled-lunged the specimen with a crossbow his first sit of the season.
“I’ve been watching him since 2019 when he was a 12-point basket rack with forked P2s and P3s on both sides. This year I had him on camera after shedding his velvet and was thinking ‘Holy Crap,’ I’ve never seen anything nontypical like that out here,” Al told Buckmasters. “He’s one of the strangest looking bucks I’ve ever harvested. On his left side he’s got a cup that could hold an ounce of water, it’s weird.”
Al’s taxidermist green scored the wall ornament roughly 190 inches, though an official measurement is still pending.
