World Record Typical Emerges After 32 Years

By Patrick Dunning

This 6x7 from November 1991 resurfaced for the first time in 32 years and is the new world record typical in Buckmaster’s shotgun category. The 13-point buck from LaSalle County, Illinois, features 208 6/8 inches of headgear, a 20 4/8-inch inside spread, and officially measured 229 2/8 inches for Buckmasters Trophy Records.

The then 52-year-old hunter had just put his bird dog back in its kennel after a successful pheasant shoot and decided to spend the remaining minutes of daylight in a nearby deer stand overlooking a trail.

Moments later this deer appeared, and he made a lethal shot with a Remington 870 pump shotgun.

The clandestine whitetail was promptly recovered and caped, transported to a local taxidermist and spent the next three decades hiding from scorers and collectors alike.

There’s a lot more to this record buck’s story, which you can read in an upcoming issue of Buckmasters Magazine.
