200” Bama Buck Biggest at Buckmasters’ 2023 Expo

Joey Towers almost didn’t pack his deer mount in the truck before driving to the Buckmasters Expo last month, but we’re sure glad he did.

BTR Director Emeritus Mike Handley measured 194 2/8 inches of antler and 25 scoreable points on this freak of a buck from Chilton County, Alabama, which drew a lot of eyes after it was displayed in our scoring booth.

For those wondering where the heck Mike found 194 inches on this mangled rack— for starters, the drop tines you see and 16 other kickers and stickers totaled 43 inches and the P2s and P3s added another 40 inches.

One interesting tidbit: the rack’s inside spread was 11 1/8 inches and the tip-to-tip spread was a mere 3 1/8 inches.

The 13x12’s final BTR tally was 205 3/8 inches and is now Alabama’s 12th largest buck in BTR’s record book and the eighth largest buck in the state with a centerfire rifle.

There’s only 15 200” (before spread) white-tailed deer from Alabama in BTR’s record book, ever, and I can count on one hand the lot taken this century.

You can read the full story on Joey’s central-Alabama stud from 2022 in an upcoming issue of Buckmasters magazine.
