Kitchen Gadget Arrow Puller

Kitchen Gadget Arrow Puller

By Jim Kotsones

Have you ever had trouble pulling wet arrows from targets, or buried your arrows so deeply into a new target that you struggled to remove them with bare fingers? I certainly have.

Slick aluminum or graphite arrows with small-diameter shafts can also be incredibly hard to pull from targets. You can actually develop shoulder and elbow injuries if you do this on a regular basis.

I have found a common kitchen gadget works far better than fingers: jar lid opener grip pads.

The pads resemble mesh-patterned silicone or latex hand towels. They stick to arrow shafts like magic, and I’ve even used them to help pull stray arrows from trees! They weigh next to nothing and fit into your pocket or your quiver pouch.

I’ve been using the same 7 1/4” x 7 1/4” square pad for more than five years now and it hasn’t worn out yet. I paid less than $6 for package of two at Amazon.

There are several types on the market, all for less than $10. Go in with a friend, buy a two-pack and halve the cost.

Jar lid grip pads can also be found in most stores with a kitchen supply section. To buy online, search “jar lid grip pads.”

Besides pulling arrows, you’ll find the pads easily clean gunk buildup from your arrow shafts. They’re also handy at the end of the day when you need something to open up your favorite beverage!
