Veterans encouraged to apply for deer hunts before Oct. 30

By South Carolina Department of Natural Resources

To offer thanks and appreciation to active duty, retired, reserve and disabled military members, the SCDNR and Cowden Plantation, near Jackson, S.C., are offering free deer hunts Nov. 30 and Dec. 14, 2018.

The hunts are available in honor the memory of Spc. Thomas Caughman of Lexington, S.C., who was killed in 2004 while serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom when his Humvee was struck by rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire in Baghdad.

Those interested in attending one of the hunts are asked to fill out an application by printing the pdf file and e-mailing it to SCDNR 1ST Sgt. Ben Thomas at thomasb@dnr.sc.gov.

SCDNR will accept the first 20 applications for each hunt until Oct. 30, 2018.

Once the application is received, a confirmation email with further details about the hunt will be sent. Successful applicants will have lunch before the hunt, as well as the opportunity to tour the Jarrett Rifles Gun Shop and Museum.
