Hunters harvest 44,455 bucks during 2017 firearms season

Preliminary data collected from the Division of Natural Resources’ electronic game checking system indicate deer hunters in West Virginia harvested 44,455 bucks during the two-week buck firearms season from Nov. 20 through Dec. 2.

Fall turkey hunters harvest 948 birds

Fall turkey hunters harvested 948 birds during the 2017 season, which puts the fall harvest down 54 percent compared to the 2016 season. The harvest, however, is only 23 percent below the five-year average.

Opening weekend reports harvest of 13,514 deer

Hunters reported harvesting 13,514 deer on the opening weekend of Maryland’s 2017 firearm season, the state’s most popular hunting season.

Early deer harvest numbers higher than 2016

Preliminary deer harvest in Nebraska is 3 percent ahead of last year’s pace. From Sept. 1 through Nov. 30, there were 49,923 deer checked, compared to 48,633 in 2016.

With two days remaining in deer-gun season, hunters checked 72,814 white-tailed deer during the 2017 weeklong deer-gun hunting season. Last year, hunters checked 66,758 deer during the weeklong deer-gun season.

Hunters take 161,057 deer; harvest up 16 percent

Firearms hunters registered 161,057 deer through the third weekend of deer season, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
Preliminary results through the third weekend show that the number of deer registered was up 16 percent from 2016. Of the deer harvested, 53 percent were bucks, compared to 63 percent during the same period in 2016.

Harvest totals 1,053 turkeys during fall season

Ohio hunters harvested 1,053 wild turkeys during the 2017 fall wild turkey season, open in 67 counties from Oct. 14 to Nov. 26. This year, 11 counties were open during the fall turkey season for the first time.
