Folks new to hunting who want to hunt rabbit or squirrel, but are not sure how to get started, can register now for an Oct. 22 program at the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center.

The Safe Harvest And Responsible Practices (S.H.A.R.P.) program will provide new hunters with basic knowledge and skills required to confidently pursue game on their own. The one-day event will include an introduction and overview, along with multiple hunting skills such as cleaning game, regulations, and biology of game species.

Instruction will focus on skills other than shooting. Lunch is included with the program. Programs are open to adults as well as youth, age 10 and older. Youth age 15 and younger must have an adult registered to attend with them.

Registration for the program is online. The cost is $30, and the program runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center, 543 Elliott Trail, Mansfield.
