Check for WMA status frequently, post-hurricane

By Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission

The effects of Hurricane Ian continue to be felt in many areas of the state, and recovery work is expected to take time.

Part of the process for the FWC and its cooperators includes assessing wildlife management areas impacted by the catastrophic storm.

The safety of WMA users and staff remains the top priority, and many WMAs impacted by Hurricane Ian will remain closed until area conditions can be evaluated.

These closures could impact hunting opportunities for those with quota or other limited entry permits as well as those hunting WMAs that don’t require a quota permit.

To ensure hunters and others have the latest update about WMAs that are closed or reopening, please frequently check FWC notices.

As WMAs reopen, they will be removed from the closure listing.

Because FWC recognizes the importance of public land hunting opportunities, information regarding preference points will soon be made available.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is appreciative the understanding and continued support of public hunting in Florida.
