Turkey lottery applications now available

By South Carolina Department of Natural Resources

Applications for turkey lottery hunts on public lands are available now through March 1 at 5 p.m.

A nonrefundable fee of $5 is required of all applicants for the Multi-site Turkey Lottery Hunt, and $5 for the youth applicant on the Youth Multi-site Turkey Hunt.

After the selection process occurs, only the primary applicant will receive email notification of the drawing's completion.

South Carolina Wildlife Partnership will provide additional lottery-based hunting opportunities to eligible individuals and/or parties that are not selected for this South Carolina Department of Natural Resources lottery hunt.

The DNR will provide a list of non-selected individuals and parties to SCWP after the SCDNR lottery draw has occurred. Inclusion in or selection for SCWP hunts will not impact selection or preference points in any SCDNR lottery and operates independently of SCDNR. Hunters must apply for the SCDNR Turkey Lottery and Opt-in for SCWP for an opportunity to be selected for a SCWP turkey hunt.

Turkey tags are no longer free.

In addition to the required hunting license, big game permit and WMA permit, all turkey hunters, including youth, are required to have turkey tags in possession while hunting.

Tags may be purchased online, by phone or at license vendors, and will be mailed beginning in mid-February.

Tags will also be available over the counter at SCDNR regional offices starting in late February.
