That’s a Wrap!

That’s a Wrap!

By Richard Mowry

Photo: Why didn’t we think of this before? Richard Mowry of Monroe, Connecticut sends us his simple tip for rainy days. Here, the hunter poses with his nice archery-taken 8-pointer.

When hunting on public land and on private land in some states, it’s necessary to carry my wallet with hunting license, tags, written permission and other papers.

As most hunters have probably experienced, paper and water don’t mix. Even if you zip your belongings in a baggie, condensation and precipitation will still find a way in.

That’s why on rainy or snowy days I wrap my wallet in plastic wrap before leaving the house.

It’s a simple solution that works better than a ziplock bag. There’s no condensation and my wallet stays compact and airtight.

If the game warden arrives, or when I get home, I simply unwrap my wallet. Nothing has fallen out and my papers are bone dry.

For years, I’ve used plastic ziplock bags to keep my papers, wallet and phone dry, but Richard Mowry’s tip makes so much more sense.

His idea got me thinking. Why not use one of my old wallets to use exclusively as a license and permits holder?

Everybody has an old wallet stuck in a drawer somewhere. I’m going to take one, store all my papers in it and wrap it up tight in Saran Wrap.

It’ll go in my backpack, so when the time comes to retrieve a tag, permission note or license, I know it’ll be dry and ready.

The old wallet might also be a good place to store aspirins, a few dry matches and a copy of my driver’s license.
