Fall turkey application open now through Aug. 1

By Michigan Department of Natural Resources

Through Aug. 1 hunters can apply for one limited-quota license, for a specific fall turkey hunt unit and season dates. The application fee is $5.

Hunters can apply online and find the map with turkey management units and license quotas, in the Fall Turkey Digest.

Drawing results will be available as of Aug. 17.

Applicants selected in the drawing may then purchase a limited-quota license online or at a license agent. After the drawing, leftover licenses will be sold until quotas are met.

Depending on how many hunters apply, leftover licenses may or may not be available for some hunt units and/or dates. Hunters, including young hunters licensed under the Mentored Youth Hunting Program, may apply for or purchase a fall turkey license. Hunters who do not apply for the drawing may purchase a leftover license, if available, beginning Aug. 31

Fall turkey season, Sept. 15 through Nov. 4, plays an important role in managing turkeys. The hunt stabilizes and reduces wild turkey numbers in certain areas of the state to meet local goals.

Detailed information about fall turkey regulations, management units, hunting hours and more can be found in the Fall Turkey Digest.
