Deer, turkey archery seasons open Sept. 15

New Hampshire's hunting seasons kick off Sept. 1 with the opening of black bear and gray squirrel seasons, followed by archery seasons for turkey and white-tailed deer Sept. 15.

Highlights of New Hampshire’s hunting seasons can be found in the newly published New Hampshire Hunting and Trapping Digest, which includes New Hampshire hunting season dates, bag limits, check station locations and more.

Hunters and trappers can pick up a free copy from Fish and Game or the local license agent when they buy their license, or access it online.

Regular firearms deer hunting season opens Nov. 8. Archery season runs Sept. 15 to Dec. 15, ending Dec. 8 in WMU A. Youth deer weekend is October 21 and 22; muzzleloader season Oct. 28 to Nov. 7; firearms season Nov. 8 to Dec. 3, ending Nov. 26 in WMU A.

The fall shotgun turkey season runs from Oct. 16 to 22. Archery turkey runs Sept.15 to Dec. 15, ending Dec. 8 in WMU A.

Apprentice hunting licenses are an option for people age 16 and older who want to try hunting, but have not taken Hunter Education. It allows hunting under the guidance of a licensed hunter age 18 or older. 

In 2016, a total of 510 individuals (351 men and 159 women) ranging in age from 16 to 70+ took advantage of the apprentice license program in New Hampshire, hunting everything from deer to migratory waterfowl. Apprentice licenses are available only at Fish and Game headquarters. Learn more.
