Viral Minerals

It’s amazing how fast word gets around in the deer community.

QUESTION: Everyone writes about the importance of mineral sites, but nobody gives ideas of what to use to attract deer to new mineral sites. I know they will eventually find them, but how do you attract them to one for first time?

ANSWER: A lot of our ATB questions require long, complicated answers. This isn’t one of those. Truth be known, it’s fairly easy. Simply put out something attractive, like corn or feed blocks, the more aromatic the better.

I’m often amazed at how quickly deer locate and recognize supplemental feed, even in areas where nothing had ever been placed in the past, and sometimes where deer seldom traveled. Word gets around fast. Once one or two deer start visiting the site on a regular basis, more will soon follow.
